March 3, 2017
The 7th annual Berkeley Circus was held on Friday, March 3. The “Circus” offers a daylong event packed full of exciting events related to all of the design programs offered at the world-renowned College of Environmental Design (CED).
The day began with “Frontiers of Design and Planning Research: Highlighted Faculty Work Department Talks,” featuring new innovative research carried out by the brilliant faculty of CED. Faculty talks were followed with hundreds of students presenting design solutions representing all departments and programs at CED. Exceptional student studio design projects were reviewed by more than 100 Distinguished Visiting Fellows from diverse professional and academic backgrounds within the fields of Environmental Design. Representing the Tech industry, as an active alumnus of CED and Visiting Fellow, Roy Hernandez (Founder, President and CEO of ThirdWave) was invited to attend.
After each one-hour presentation of impressive design projects, encompassing architecture, urban planning, and landscape architecture, Visiting Fellows had 30 minutes to engage students in open discussion regarding the projects and research presented. At the conclusion of all presentations, Visiting Fellows identified one exceptional student or project from their respective groups to be acknowledged at the Student Recognition Ceremony. Noted Hernandez: “The extraordinary talent of CED faculty and students was both impressive and inspirational; the future of the built environment is in good hands.”
