
SCAG Taps ThirdWave to Adopt Project Management Best Practices

The Southern California Association of Governments (SCAG) has retained ThirdWave to provide professional training to its staff on project management principles and techniques for managing the agencies procurement and contracting processes.
SCAG is the Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) of six of the ten counties in Southern California, encompassing Imperial, Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino, and Ventura Counties. It is the largest MPO in the United States, representing over 18.5 million people in an area covering over 38,000 square miles. SCAG is mandated by the federal government to research and draw up plans for transportation, growth management, hazardous waste management, and air quality.
ThirdWave will provide various services under this engagement, including:

Assess current project management programs and systems.

Carry out Rapid Workfow® As-Is / To-Be business process improvement workshops for various mission critical processes: procurement, contracting, project

management, project tracking, invoice payment, resource management, personnel roles / responsibilities, and project close-out.

Develop future site process flow charts, forms and templates.

Develop a Project Management Handbook based on PMBOK best practices.

Conduct Project Management Training for 140 staff members.
